Wild Mushroom Foraging & Lunch

in Healdsburg, Sonoma County

Sonoma County is one of the world’s premier regions for edible wild mushroom foraging, and winter is peak mushroom season in the hills around Healdsburg. If you’ve ever wanted to learn how to safely identify wild mushrooms—and enjoy them at the table—this guided wild mushroom foraging class in Sonoma County offers a rare, hands-on experience.

Join mushroom experts David Campbell and Julie Schreiber, who together bring more than 80 years of wild mushroom experience, for a guided foray followed by a four-course wild mushroom lunch paired with local wines.

Guided Wild Mushroom Foraging Near Healdsburg

Our morning begins with a guided mushroom foraging walk near Healdsburg, where participants learn the fundamentals of safe and responsible foraging. Topics include:

  • How to identify productive trees and terrain
  • The most common and easily recognizable edible wild mushrooms in Sonoma County
  • Mushroom identification basics, handling, and safety
  • Understanding key identifying characteristics using both edible and non-edible specimens

All mushrooms found during the foray—edible or not—are gathered and used as teaching tools to build confidence and reinforce proper identification.

A Seasonal Wild Mushroom Lunch with Local Wine

After working up an appetite in the woods, we gather for a relaxed wild mushroom lunch prepared by Chef Julie, a trained chef and winemaker. The four-course menu celebrates the season and incorporates any edible mushrooms found during the foray, alongside additional premium wild mushrooms.

Lunch is paired with selected local Sonoma County wines, and discussion continues around storing, handling, and cooking both fresh and dried wild mushrooms at home.
